A meaningful gift for judges, auctioneers, and leaders who deserve recognition
When someone has dedicated their life to fairness, leadership, or keeping order, a gift should carry that same weight. This engraved gavel and sound block set isn’t just symbolic – it’s fully functional, built to last, and handcrafted in our Brisbane workshop from hardwood timbers you won’t find on the shelf anywhere else. We put real effort into sourcing and working with these timbers so the end result is something worthy of its purpose.
Each gavel is shaped from dense hardwood and paired with a matching sound block that delivers a sharp, commanding strike. The colours are completely natural – even the striking red of African Padauk. We never stain or fake the look of our timber. Whether it’s raised in a courtroom, called down in a board meeting, struck on the auction floor, or given as a ceremonial gift, it carries genuine authority in hand.
Our gavels are trusted worldwide – used by military and naval officers, NATO officials, company presidents, the World Health Organization, auctioneers, and judges from magistrates through to supreme courts. When quality matters, this is the gavel they choose.
The new brushed gold anodised aluminium bands can be engraved permanently with your chosen name, title, or message. The etching never wears away, no matter how often it’s used. For a thoughtful finishing touch, add a velvet-lined hardwood gift box made from full-stave beech – it keeps the gavel safe and presents it with the respect it deserves.
This is a gift that will be valued, seen, heard, and remembered.
*** PLEASE NOTE: INDIAN ROSEWOOD CANNOT BE EXPORTED. THIS IS A RESTRICTED SPECIES AND IS RESERVED FOR AUSTRALIAN ORDERS ONLY *** International orders for Indian Rosewood will be cancelled and refunded.
Timber options
Every timber we use is chosen for its strength, density and beauty – the qualities that make a gavel both functional and ceremonial.

In order from left to right:
- European Beech – A classic light coloured hardwood with straight grain. Reliable, strong and even-textured, making it a timeless choice for traditional gavels.
- American Black Walnut – Dark, rich chocolate brown with warm undertones. Loved for its weight and dignity, it gives a gavel a sense of presence.
- African Zebrano – Bold stripes of light and dark grain. Unique, eye-catching and a true statement piece for someone who stands out in leadership.
- African Padauk – Known for its striking, fiery red colour when freshly cut – and no, we never stain or colour it, that red really is natural. Dense and strong, Padauk delivers a sharp, powerful strike that feels commanding in hand. Each gavel made from this timber will slowly develop its own darker tone, over time deepening to a rich brown, especially with exposure to sunlight, carrying the story of its years in use.
- Indian Rosewood – A dense, rare and exquisite timber available in limited quantities. Deep brown with purple hues, prized for both beauty and strength. *** Indian Rosewood is restricted to Australian orders only. Cannot be exported
- Imbuia (Coming Soon) – A South American hardwood with warm golden to deep brown tones. Known for its natural resonance, making it ideal for a sharp strike.

Caring for your gavel
Our gavels are sealed with natural oils that dry fully, so they’re ready to use straight away. The bands are made from anodised aluminium – the engraving won’t rub off, and they won’t crack or peel.
There’s no special upkeep needed, but timber is a living material – it naturally shifts with changes in humidity. To help it age well:
- Store somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight.
- Avoid damp or steamy areas, which can cause swelling.
- If the wood ever looks a little dry, wipe on a light coat of natural oil (like tung or mineral oil) and buff with a soft cloth.
- Clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth only – no harsh cleaners, no soaking in water.
- Don’t leave the wooden box in hot cars or beside heaters, as extreme heat can warp the timber.
Every gavel is made to be functional, but it’s also a piece of fine timber – treat it like you would a good wooden instrument or piece of high end furniture and it will serve its purpose for many years while picking up its own character along the way.
FAQs
Why are some wood species more expensive?
It comes down to rarity and the work involved. Rare timbers like Padauk and Rosewood deserve extra attention – we hand sand them all the way up to a 10,000-grit finish. It’s slow, detailed work, but the result is as close to perfect as we can make it.
Our base species, like Beech and Walnut, are more common and affordable. We finish these to a 400-grit sand, which keeps the cost down while still giving a smooth, professional surface.
Can the engraving wear off?
No — the band is anodised aluminium and the engraving is permanent. It won’t rub off with handling.
Do you really make these, or do you import them?
We craft every single gavel, and gift set in-house, start to finish. We use quality air- and kiln-dried hardwood timbers, and even built the machines that help us shape them. Each piece is hand-finished by us in our Brisbane workshop, and it’s a product we’re genuinely proud of.
Do I have to order the gift box?
The gavel and sound block can be purchased on their own, or you can add the hardwood gift box for presentation and safekeeping.
How long will it take to make?
We handcraft and engrave each set to order. Allow up to a week in production before dispatch.
Is it just decorative, or can it be used?
Our gavels are fully functional — made to last, using only quality hardwoods — strong enough for heavy use in meetings, auctions, and courtrooms. Handles are crafted from specially selected straight grains that wont snap under heavy use. We know — because we use them as tools in our own workshop under much heavier working conditions than they would normally be subjected to.
