Built for command, tradition, and the mess

In the military and navy, a gavel isn’t just symbolic. It’s a working tool. It calls a mess hall to order when voices carry too far. It brings silence to a regimental meeting or naval board. It marks the start of a formal dinner, announces a fine, or brings down the final strike at a change-of-command ceremony. Wherever it’s used, one thing is constant – the person holding it carries the authority of their rank, and the gavel makes sure that authority is heard.

Our military gavels are built with that reality in mind. Dense hardwood heads that cut through the loudest rooms. Handles shaped for strength so they don’t snap under pressure. Finishes tough enough to handle both the formality of the parade ground and the rowdy humour of the mess. When you give one as a gift, you’re not handing over an ornament – you’re giving a tool that fits straight into service life.

Timber options

Every gavel is shaped from genuine hardwood – no stains, no shortcuts – and finished by hand to highlight its natural strength and beauty.

  • European Beech – Light and even-grained, the traditional timber of gavels. Dependable and clean, perfect for formal military settings.
  • American Black Walnut – Dark, weighty, and dignified. Walnut carries presence, suited for senior officers and ceremonial occasions.
  • African Zebrano – Striking light-and-dark striped grain, bold and unmistakable. A choice for leaders who stand out.
  • African Padauk – Vivid natural red when fresh, mellowing into darker tones with years of use. Dense and powerful, it delivers a sharp strike that cuts through the noise of a crowded hall.
  • Indian Rosewood – Rare, dense, and refined. Deep brown with purple hues, polished to a glass-like finish – a timber worthy of high command.
  • Imbuia (coming soon) – Golden to deep brown with natural resonance, producing a sharp, ringing strike – ideal for ceremony and formal dinners.Gavel Wood Speciel LilyCraft

FAQs

Can this really survive a military mess?
Yes. We build gavels to take punishment – dense hardwood heads, reinforced handles, and permanent engraving. They’ve been tested in rowdy mess halls and still look sharp on the parade ground.

Can you engrave our unit insignia or ship’s crest?
Absolutely. Send your logo file and we can add it to the band, box and soundblock - or wherever you'd like.

Do I need the gift box?
No. The gavel and sound block can be ordered on their own. The box is optional for ceremonial presentation and safekeeping.

How long will it take to make?
Each gavel is handcrafted and engraved to order. Allow up to a week for production plus shipping time.

Each one is built in Brisbane with the care, toughness, and respect that service life demands – ready for the serious moments, and strong enough to survive the lively ones too.
